Theory of Therapy
James sets out to exceed expectations with the individuals he works with. One of the many ways he does this is by experiencing the individual as a complex human, capable of a multitude of thoughts, feelings, and actions versus the confining nature of a mental health diagnosis. Oddly enough, when you meet with James you will be treated as a human and as a human navigating the onslaught of the mind and all the crap that comes along with it!
The process of therapy with James is about noticing the antics of mind; moving from psychological rigidity to psychological flexibility; understanding and acting upon your values, thus what you find important, meaningful, enriching, and fulfilling. There will be no analyzing or digging for the "root cause" as there are too many experiences (literally billions) to sift through AND THEN determine that that ONE experience or thought or feeling or sensation is THE "root cause." Again, you are too complex to be boiled down to a single anything.
Therapy is not comfortable. If you're in therapy now and it's comfortable then quit! Like exercising, therapy is most effective when it's uncomfortable. This means you're moving through tricky experiences and finding new ways to understand and experience them.
As you can tell, this therapy process is mostly experiential, not intellectual. Meaning, you'll be spending time practicing strategies and stepping into the experiential space in order to be even more effective at making moves towards valued, committed action.
